Gut Shot

Who knew. You make a dead deer cake and the world goes crazy. A customer asked for this cake, made of red velvet, of course, for her boyfriend for graduation. It was a challenge for me to make, and I learned alot of cake-y decorating things. I've been told many times that was a bad shot, so- I promise, that if I make another cake like this, it won't be a gut shot.

  1. Can you give me tips on how to make this cake? I want to make it for my boyfriends birthday in September.

  2. Hi Megan! I'll do my best. I was just trying new things and don't really have a formula for this cake. I baked 2 sheet cakes-I don't remember what size, this cake was enough to feed 100, so just use what size you want the body to be. I baked another sheet cake to cut into leg pieces. I also used cut pieces to shape a head. So everything was in blocks and I carved the edges with a knife to shape the head and make the body a little contoured. I frosted it with white buttercream. I used white fondant to cover the belly and lower part of the legs, then used brown fondant to cover the rest of the body. The hooves are black fondant. The antlers are small dowels covered with fondant, and the eyes are fondant. The blood is red gel and the arrow is a dowel. The deer is on sheet cakes of chocolate and I covered it with smashed chocolate animal crackers and used candy rocks and made fondant leaves. Good Luck, I'm sure he will love it!
