Ewen's 8th birthday is this weekend and he is VERY into legos right now. He is, out of all 5 kids, the one who loves them most. The whole house has been taken over by these things, and Ron steps on at least one each day. I saw these cute cookies somewhere online and thought we'd give them a go. Ewen helped flood the yellow frosting on the cookies and had a great time.

Car Cookies

A teacher from our elementary school called and asked for some race car cookies to celebrate a milestone for the class. But, believe it or not, out of the hundreds of cutters that I have, there was no car cutter to be found. So I drew a little car, then traced it on a piece of plastic (cool whip lid) and made a template. I'm not sure if they look like very fast race cars, but I thought they turned out kind of cute. These cookies are HUGE, just the way I like 'em.

Snowflake Cookies

I love snowflakes. Not the outside cold kind. Only the kind I can eat with milk or use to decorate my house. Especially the kind I can eat with milk. Sometimes I get a little bored with a big cookie order, because they all have to be the same. But- I can do whatever I want on snowflakes because we all know that no two snowflakes are the same.

The Little Mermaid

I was so excited this week about this cake. I haven't worked a lot with figures-so it was a good time to try it out. I also worked with modeling chocolate on this cake which is something new for me. It tastes a whole lot better than fondant or gum paste, I can tell you that. I learned a lot on this cake and I'm excited to keep working with 3D cakes. I only hope that Makylah recognizes Ariel-

Pie-monade

Most people at our house aren't that crazy about cake. I must admit, if someone puts a piece of plain old cake in front of me with plain old icing on it, it's not my favorite either. I need a cake that has lots of fillings and layers of deliciousness. But, I digress, this post is about pie. I've probably made just about as many birthday pies as birthday cakes. I've done the little bite sized pies before, but I saw this idea for single serving pies made in a muffin tin-and I knew I had to make some pie-monade. (That's just one of those crazy things said around our house when I make pie-any strongbad lovers out there?) I gave it a try and had a little trouble getting them out of the tin on the first try. There were a lot of broken ones that ended up in a bowl with people waiting off to the side with forks for them to break. All the while Ron is walking around saying"Ya gots to make pie-monade". I know, I know.

Love and Fabric Roses

Ok, so I am in love with those fabric roses that I have seen all over the place. I have a wreath I made with some of them, and Emma and her friend that came over made some headbands. I saw this cake and it reminded me of them. I loved the look-so simple, but a little bit elegant at the same time. I made a birthday cake last week for a little girl at church and her sister came up and told me that she wanted chocolate and white for her cake because her birthday is this week. I think I have a new job as birthday cake lady at church and that's ok by me. So here is her cake. It's a chocolate cake with white buttercream frosting. Chocolate and white.

Staff Appreciation Cookies

I decided not to do the laundry today so I could get these cookies finished. (Sorry about being out of towels dear family) We are having a little thing I like to call Wish Week at the elementary and a couple of the sweet teachers there wished for some of my cookies! How exciting to be so famous that 2 people know about me.

I saw some cookies on another blog that were done in kind of retro colors. Well, I thought they looked a little retro anyway. The colors reminded me of an apron or some kitchen curtains from the 50's that maybe had a blue background and some cherries on it? Do you know the one I'm talking about? I loved the blue and red together, but I got the pink a little brighter than I wanted it, so it wasn't quite the look I wanted-I ended up liking the pink ones separate from the rest.

Jr. Mints? Yes, please-

When I go to the movie theater, my snack of choice is Jr. Mints. So when I saw this recipe for Jr. Mint buttercream on bake it in a cake-I had to give it a try. It didn't disappoint. I paired with it with my favorite white cupcake with another new discovery baked inside, a mint truffle kiss. I put some chocolate chips on top because, well, chocolate chips are good on anything.

Reeses Cup Cupcakes

New cupcake recipe! New cupcake recipe! I love it-from the moist yellow cupcake with the secret little prize inside (mini reeses cup) to the rich, rich, rich cocoa peanut butter frosting. This is definitely a new favorite. But I am feeling a little sick after licking the frosting bowl....
